About Me
I'm Juha-Matti, a software engineer, father and a human being from Finland. Yes, my legal name contains a dash. Just imagine how many times poorly designed computer systems render
my name incorrectly. For example, my plane tickets are always printed as HOPPONEN/JUHAMATTMR... Most of my non-Finnish friends call me simply Juha
(pronounced roughly as /YOU-ha/).
I live in the town of Nummela, in the municipality of Vihti, some 45 kilometres Northwest from the capital. I share my home with my adult daughter.
Although, since my significant other lives in Helsinki and my work is there, it's fair to say that I split my time half and half between Nummela and Helsinki.
I was born in 1981, which makes me 43 years old now. In my spare time, I enjoy books, writing, cooking, pub quizes, traveling, and spectator sports (mainly football and ice hockey)
Some of my favorites
Books: This is
so meaningful topic for me that I shall compose a lot longer list, but first five authors to come to mind
at the time of writing could be: Franz Kafka, Väinö Linna, Vladimir Nabokov, George Orwell and Jose Saramago.
Food: Anything goes, really. But if I would need to choose one regional food I'd live with the rest of my life, I would pinpoint a compass onto the island of Crete and
draw a circle with 1000 km radius. Such circle would include many of my most beloved cuisines.
Football: Ilves Tampere,
NuPS Nummela and obviously
our beloved national side
Ice Hockey: Ilves has always been the number one thing for me in sports. The feeling when
attending the home game in shiny, new Nokia Arena or any away game and cheering with fellow Ilves fans is just simply something
nothing can beat. Also my thumbs up for our local Nummela lower division heroes NKV.
